Pillar Focus The Commandments “I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange gods before me”

Astrology is very popular these days, especially with the New Year. People want to use the zodiac signs to determine their future, give direction, and especially to help with meeting others who are their “right match.” Astrology is so popular that many major newspapers and other news providers have a special section devoted to it. On this past New Years Eve, Att/Yahoo (a major internet service provider) had a featured article on their homepage which was titled: “What’s in store for you in 2011?”- all about the zodiac signs.

Bottom line is this, Astrology is a deception. It can make us stray from our true paths in Christ. The Church has always held a firm stance against following Astrology. This opposition has existed since Old Testament times. Following Astrology is also written in the Catechism as a violation of the First Commandment.

“What if I follow it a little bit” or “just for fun?” These are common reasons people give for following Astrology. Why confuse yourself, even by "just a little bit?!"  Through prayer and the Sacraments will we find our way in this world.
